Doors will open at 7.30 on the night and Yiddlesticks will take to the stage at 8pm, followed by Niamh and Graham at 9pm.

    NIAMH PARSONS AND GRAHAM DUNNE

Niamh Parsons has come to be known as one of the most distinctive voices in Irish music. Her voice has drawn comparisons to such venerated singers as Dolores Keane, June Tabor and Sandy Denny.Described in the Boston Herald as both emotionally haunting and tonally as clear as crystal, Niamh’s albums have been ‘must-have’ collector’s items for any lover of songs and singing.

With 8 CDs to her name, Niamh has gathered a body of songs from many sources, both traditional and modern songwriters.
Since 1999 Niamh has been playing in a duet with Ennis based Graham Dunne. There is a spiritual bond between Niamh and Graham when they perform, which draws out the essence of the songs.

Throughout her career, Niamh has performed with a wide variety of artists, and has appeared at nearly every prestigious folk festival on either side of the Atlantic. As a member of the traditional Irish band Arcady (led by De Dannan's Johnny Ringo McDonagh), she sang on
their Shanachie/Dara recording Many Happy Returns.

One of Niamh's CDs, In My Prime (Green Linnet 2000), received widespread praise. Folk Roots named it one of the top albums of the year and The Irish Voice called the album a must-have disc for lovers of Irish song. The album was nominated for Album of the Year by BBC Radio 2 (UK) and the Association for Independent Music (US).

After a ten year absence, Niamh and Graham are back with their new CD ‘Kind Providence’, on their own label. A quality album, with mostly traditional songs, which was very well received, with Graham recording, editing, playing and singing, mixing and mastering. As Siobhan Long of the Irish Times says ‘she’s the conduit, not the gatekeeper of a song.’

This is a body of work that has proven Niamh Parsons one of the premier vocalists of her time and a keeper of the flame in Irish traditional song.

One of the most distinctive duos in Irish traditional music, songstress Niamh Parsons & guitarist Graham Dunne share a deep musical bond that allows them to express the very essence of each song they perform.

Wednesday 1st November welcomes Daoiri Farell to the Irish Club.

Tickets for the event are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for Under 16s.  They can be purchased by clicking register on this page or through www.wegottickets.com.  They can also be purchased on the door on the night.

Although the only singer/musician in his immediate family, Daoirí (pronounced ‘Derry’) was introduced to the music at a very early age by his parents who shared a keen interest in artists such as Christy Moore, Andy Irvine, Frank Harte, Planxty and The Bothy Band and more.  Daoirí took up music himself at the relatively late age of 16 and only started to perform at 23, but he has come a long way since then and the early release of his accomplished debut album ‘The First Turn’, which he recorded in 2009 while studying music on the Ceoiltoir Higher National Diploma in Irish Traditional Music Performance course, in Ballyfermot College of Further Education (BCFE), Dublin.

‘The First Turn, could well prove to be a winner for Daoirí Farrell’ Irish Music Magazine

Following the release of ‘The First Turn’, Daoirí took an extended break from recording to pursue a degree in Applied Music at Dundalk’s Institute of Technology, followed by an MA in Music Performance at the World Academy of Music in the University of Limerick.

Since Daoirí’s return to the stage, he has regularly performed in the many singing circles and folk clubs around Ireland, from Dublin’s famous Góilin singers club to the All-Ireland Fleadh to name but a few.  He has performed alongside some of the biggest names in Irish and international folk music including Christy Moore, Dónal Lunny, Martin Hayes, Dennis Cahill, Alan Doherty, Danú, Dervish, Julie Fowlis, The Young’uns, Paddy Keenan Trio, Matt Molloy, Arty McGlynn, The John Carty Big Band, The East Pointers, Kíla, Sean Keane, Gerry O’Connor (Banjo), Gerry O’Connor (Fiddle), Alan Burke, Lynched and more.

He became the All Ireland Champion Singer at the Fleadh in Co. Derry in 2013 and won the Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections in 2015 with the line-up FourWinds.

He has continued to gain in stature among the Irish folk-singing circuit, and has toured in numerous line-ups throughout Ireland and beyond, including dates in France, Germany, America, Canada and India, with his UK launch as a solo artist taking place at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections festival in January 2016.

Daoirí is currently working on his second solo album, due out in autumn 2016, and will tour the UK in May 2016 – including support dates for Cara Dillon and Sam Carter – and November 2016, with festival dates confirmed for this year including Moseley Folk Festival, Broadstairs Folk Week, Costa Del Folk and FolkEast.

Two PHENOMENAL musicians are coming our way on 9th November.

Jean-Michel Veillon (flutes) & Yvon Riou (guitar) are coming to our famous Carousel Sessions

Tickets are £10 and can be bought online by registering for the event on this site or www.wegottickets.co.uk

Born on the north coast of Brittany, Jean-Michel Veillon was first a dancer and then a bombard* player in his teens. He then started to play the transverse wooden flute, getting his first influences from various Irish flute players, but then created distinct articulation techniques, more adapted to the Breton music.
Jean-Michel toured Europe and the U.S extensively from the 1980’s until today as a founder member of the highly praised KORNOG, PENNOU SKOULM, DEN, BARZAZ, TOUD’SAMES, Alain GENTY Group, Dan AR BRAZ & Heritage des Celtes, Jacques PELLEN & Celtic Procession (jazz and trad fusion), and recently toured with the prestigious tabla player ZAKIR HUSSAIN, recording a live CD (« Distant Kin ») at the San Francisco Jazz Center together with Indian, Scottish and Irish musicians.
Widely credited with introducing the simple system wooden flute into Breton folk music and primarly responsible, through his intensive teaching efforts and hundreds of concerts and festivals appearances, for its enthusiastic adoption among many dozens of young musicians throughout Brittany, Jean-Michel has achieved widespread recognition as one of world’s premier traditional flute players. [* Bombard : old type of very loud double reed oboe, almost an emblem of Brittany]

Yvon Riou, guitar player from the coast of Tregor*, started with playing the open tuning (dadgad type), popularized in Brittany by guitarists like Soïg SIBÉRIL and Gilles LE BIGOT. He later developed his own very personal style of accompaniment, both sensitive and energetic, which makes him sound like no other.
Yvon played with the breton bands SKOLVAN & PENNOÙ SKOULM and accompanied on several occasions famous Irish musicians like Brid HARPER or the trio Paul BRADLEY, Ger FITZGERALD & Joe Mc KENNA. He was also part of the Brian Mc COMBE band with the Brittany-based bodhrán player and percussionist David « Hopi » HOPKINS, touring several times all over France and Poland. [*Tregor : beautiful part of northern Brittany, cuturally very rich and dynamic]

Created in 1993, the duo Veillon-Riou was the first flute and guitar duo dedicated to Breton music, playing in innumerable festoù-noz* in Brittany, but also in concert with a repertoire extending to Irish & Scottish music and beyond. Jean-Michel & Yvon have toured extensively in Ireland (recording a live album – « Beo » - at the Culturlann McAdam O Fiaich in Belfast) but also played in Poland, Italy, England, USA and Canada). Their new album « Deus an Aod d'ar Menez » just came out in march 2017.
