The return of Klezmer-Irish fusion ‘Amid the Mirk Over the Irk’ with Mike McGoldrick, Ange Durcan, L'chaim Kapelye (Dan Mawson, Jemima Kingsland, Meabh Kennedy, Lucie Phillip), Paul Cowham, and Emma Sweeney.

A musical meeting of two of Manchester’s most prominent communities, directed by Richard Fay, with classic folk tunes, new compositions, intriguing fusions, and evocative spoken word (with Katherine Reynolds).

Tickets are £12 for adults and £6 for under 16's by registering here or from wegottickets.com (booking fees apply)

Imagine it: Victorian Manchester, the huddled masses down in the valley of the River Irk; to the west, the largely Jewish communities of Red Bank, to the east, the largely Irish dwellers of Angel Meadow.

Their differences in languages, cultures and religions meant they probably kept largely to themselves; however these two communities – though very different – shared the experience of leaving their homes behind, driven from their rural and small-town home-worlds for the industrialised deprivations and opportunities of Cottonopolis.

Fusing bulgars with reels, slip jigs with horas and hornpipes with khosidls, it’s a fusion will take you by surprise and keep you on the edge of your seats, as you are pulled through styles, songs, dances and histories.
